About Us

Where it all began...

Our story began with our founder, Helen Gibbons-Brown, searching extensively to find the best preschool care for her young sons in the Bristol area. In 2004 she decided to take steps to open her own nursery provision, and Charlton Nursery was born.

Both our nurseries are under the care of experienced, long serving, qualified Managers, and are supported by highly skilled Deputy Managers. Our founder, Helen, works closely with our Operations Manager, Mel Toogood and the team is completed with a knowledgeable Finance Department (based at our Bristol site).

Each room is managed by an experienced senior early years practitioner

and a team of qualified and trainee practitioners. We’re delighted to say that OFSTED agree with our approach, rating both of our nurseries Good with Outstanding Features.

We’ve created dedicated rooms for parents and carers and you are most welcome to stay and have a coffee whilst reassuring yourself that your child is settled and happy before you leave.

We welcome babies and children aged six weeks to five years old, 51 weeks of the year.

Meet the team

The Charlton Family...

Without a doubt the most important part of a nursery is the team behind it, and we are proud to say we have a brilliant staff of friendly, welcoming, professional practitioners working across both nurseries. Having a mixture of males and females for children to interact with is important and we invest in our team with regular, high quality training, in conjunction with the Bristol Association for Neighbourhood Daycare (BAND) amongst others. We also celebrate the fact that the vast majority of our practitioners stay with us for the longer term.

Founder & C.E.O

Helen is our founder C.E.O. She set up Charlton after a background in HR and recruitment, and having never quite found the nursery she wanted for her two sons.

Helen adores children, and her mantra is that she was put on this earth to 'mother'; be that her children, our children here at Charlton or our staff.

Outside of work, Helen adores walking her two black Labradors, and watching her sons play any sport!
