Charlton Flax Bourton is in a spacious, modernised Georgian property within its own grounds in the picturesque village of Flax Bourton, yet benefiting from excellent transport links to Bristol.
Our joint managers Kim Bazley and Hannah Tarkanyi lead a fantastic team of Early Years Practitioners. We welcome up to 101 children from six weeks to five years old.
Having first opened in 2010, Charlton Flax Bourton underwent significant improvements finishing in 2018 which included adding a modern extension.
Keen to make the most of our fantastic grounds, in 2017 we planted an orchard with productive fruit trees and a raised bed vegetable patch. We welcomed rescue chickens shortly afterwards, with the aim of producing our own eggs, which the children enjoy collecting.

Charlton Bristol is based in an architecturally-designed, purpose-built building on Winterstoke Road. It’s a modern space with excellent facilities including an outstanding outdoor learning facility for pre-school children, positioned in a central Bristol location.
Our Manager is experienced practitioner Hannah Williams who looks after a brilliant team. We welcome up to 78 children here, ranging from six weeks to five years old.
Outside we have our own dedicated play area, which can be accessed directly from the rooms, as well as the daily use of a large astro-turf area for the older children. In the autumn of 2019 we invested in canopies for two of our outdoor areas. This was to enable continuous outdoor provision which could be accessed all year round.
In the summer of 2019 we completed our first 3 year cycle of the Bristol Standard, an evaluative framework which we started in 2016. We are about to begin this 3 year journey again and are looking forward to reflecting on our practice.
We have invested in Learning Language and Loving It training for our staff; a course delivered by Bristol Early Years Speech and Language Therapy Team. This is a programme to promote children's social, language and literacy development in early childhood.
